Driving down a country road in rural Mississippi (Near Wiggins) my wife noticed these trees with an unusual fruit. We came back and stopped and picked a couple and got a picture of them. I do not have any idea of what it could be. Does anyone else know what this tree is?

They are about a little smaller than a tennis ball, maybe as big as a racket ball

The trees were about 10-12 feet tall.... some smaller....

This looks very much like a tung oil tree to me. Cut one open and if they are bitter and very sappy that what it is.
There used to be a large market in that area for them.

P.S. thats not far from where I hang my hat.
