No way to stop it really unless you fence the face of the mountain. Even then mother nature can undo anything manmade anytime she really wants too.

The road between Ouray and Silverton, CO has been closed for almost two weeks due to a rock slide. This makes the trip 100 miles longer between the two towns.

And not the first either. The one boulder that came to rest in the vineyard below the house stopped right next to another very large boulder that I imagine got there in much the same way.
