I'm checking out what raisins I have access to and practically all of them have some kind of oil.
Contains vegetable oil (bulk store). Palm oil (supermarket).

Anybody else have this problem. Is it a problem. Can I simply rinse and use?.

Thanks
Bill

Give them a good wash beforehand, they'll be fine.

Sunmaid is a californian brand and they do an all natural dried raisin product using no oils, not sure if it's a brand available where you are though.

Thanks, Allie

Yes the sunmade ones are available but only the very dark ones.
I used those in my banana kiwi hooch because no oil was listed on the package.

I have more varieties and choice with the others, so if a good wash will fix it, it gives me more options.

I had posted here but for some reason it didnt make it, Huh! But anyway, I think youd be fine with washing them good and maybe that soda wash that Luc speaks of would be a good idea.

Be also aware that raisins will be conserved with sulphite.

Rinse them well with hot water. Then with fresh.
Next soak them overnight like described here:

I never had washed them with soda, but then mine are not soaked in oil.

Can't you just get plain dried ones in a plastic bag ???

The only raisins I've seen with no oil are the small dark Californian Sunmade brand and they are not always available locally.
All the other raisins, either in a plastic bag or bulk, contain some kind of oil. Non have sulphites listed on the packaging though.
