Before I get screwed up, is this enough room to do a double skin kit. This is 6 gallons of water.
I have another bucket but the inside seams slightly roughed up. I can feel it. Im concerned with infection . Should I worry or is that more for beer? I already did a kit in it and it seems ok as of now. Its only been 3 months though.
I sure the pic of the inside is useless but I attached it

Agreed, you don’t have enough room for foaming, let alone anything else you’re going to add. Split the must into 2 at least through primary. Scratches are probably more serious to winemakers than brewers sine the must/wine spends more time in them than beer does. Time to relegate that bucket to “sanitizer only” duty.

Thats my concern. Ok, ill try to get a bigger bucket. The one I'm concerned about is probably fine but I'd rather get a bigger bucket
It's always good to have proper sized fermenting buckets available, but in a pinch, I've been experimenting with lower temperature ferments. No accidents so far and no stalled ferments.

Yeast is an unpredictable beast -- I make it a point to fill a container no more than 3/4 full, as I've had a few that were overachievers. These were not hot ferments -- I could find no reason for the excess activity. So I plan for it, which is better than cleaning up a mess.

I found the 7.5 gal buckets are barely large enough for many 5 gal ferments. Especially since I typically start with an extra gallon for racking losses and topping up. I generally go straight to the 10 gallon Brute for 5 and 6 gallon batches.

For folks in the USA, Lowes Home Improvement carries 10 gallon white brutes (no lid) for $22.50 USD, and grey with a lid for $20.

I thought they made 12 and 16 gallon, but according to Rubbermaid's site, it's 10, 20, 28, 32, 44, and 55 gallon.

I just made a 7 gallon Elderberry in a 32 gallon Brute, as my purpose made primaries are too small. I need to get a 10 gallon .....

LabelPeelers has a 10 gallon fermenter with lid for $41, and their prices are competitive, so I'd not expect to find one much cheaper. The big difference between the Brute and a purpose made fermenter is that the lid of the Brute will not be air tight.

I'm sure with some creativity and weather stripping you could make it airtight.
