Any ideas on how to keep voles from attacking my vines. I am planting in an area where I have lost roses barberry and pussywillow to those suckers. Mthey eat all the roots and kill the plants

Try putting moth balls around the holes. The Naphthalene drives them away. Caution: they may be toxic to animals that eat them.

I am surrounding the test plot with a railroad tie wall. Hopefully it will slow them down.

I wonder if this would work. Make a wire basket out of 1/4 inch machine cloth, the sides to come up about an inch or two above ground. Plant your vine in this basket, the roots of the vine could get thru the 1/4 wire mesh, but the voles and moles couldn't. Just a thought?
