Straining with cheesecloth

I would sanitize it first but I dont see a problem with it but it wont do a great job, I would just let it clear on its own or use a fining agent.
For straining the must it is ok if you (like Wade said) sanitise it first.

It would not filter particles out of a wine as they are to small.

Go to your local hardware store and purchase a 5gal paint straining bag...that's about as good as it gets for straining.
