I would like to measure residual sugar. My theoretical method is as follows. With a known quantity of wine, boil off the alcohol, reconstitute to previous quantity and measure directly with a triple-scale hydrometer.

Will this then yield the results I seek??

Some wine contest entry forms require thewinemaker to define the residual sugar of their winebased on Clinitest results. So that would be an accepted test result in case you need it for contest purposes later.

Wow, ibglowin. What a trip. Most pharmacies I went to had never heard of the clinitest tablets. Also, that test is old technology.
I did finally find the tablets at a store 240 miles from home. (We were in the area!)
And they appear to be available thru Amazon.com.
Thanks for the help. Always like a little adventure with my wine.

Next question. Can the Clinitest method be correlated in any way with the Balling scale?
For example, would my original method of removing the alcohol and reconstituting be equivalent to the Balling test number?
