RJ Spagnols Is topping off necessary?

Hi guys,
Just wondering is topping off necessary when removing a cup out of the top of the corboy, I have about 6 days left till bottling, its the Apple mist wine.

6 days isnt really necessary but why are you removing a cup of wine? When they have you remove wine it is because you need to add something back to it.

I was trying to be strong, but the temptation was so much stronger,
I hope during my next batchI gain some much needed strength......

I suspect thats why they made 5 gallon carboys for those 6 gallons kits
