Wine in the air lock

Yesterday I added 6 large oranges to my Chilean Muscato. The wine was stabilized several weeks ago. I kept the wine two inches from the top. Twice now the wine has gone up into the air lock and I had to remove a few ounces each time. I assume this is a result of the oranges breaking down. Is this correct?

That would be my assumption as well.
