approximately 40% of root growth of grapes is done in the fall after harvest is complete. a good watering is necessary at that time. continual watering may cause additional growth that will not survive winter. I would stop at least one month before your average first freeze in your location. even that might not be enough to toughen new growth. if you have a had harvest wait about a week do a heavy watering about two gallons a plant and then stop.
