So, I bottled my port tonight. Put it those nice cobalt blue bottles (375ml) from George.

I corked all but 3 bottles.

A friend wanted a few bottles and asked for tasting corks. Well,
I pushed them in with some medium force. I thought, "ok, lets
see how it comes out?" I twisted, and the plastic top twisted
apart from the cork. So, I picked up the next and pushed up, like
with champagne...the cork split again from the cap. So I pulled
the corks out with a normal corker and gently pushed a tasting cork
about half way in. This one I can twist out. Am I not
suppose to set them all the down to the plastic cap? What am I
doing wrong?

Help!!

Doug,

They are not consistant in their quality. Please come by the store for some replacements.

George,

You know, not sure when I will learn. I purchased these at the little shop closer to my house. Thats what I get for not wanting to drive across town!

I'll come by and buy some from you!

Should I expect to be able to insert them all the way, and then push and pull them out?

That is the way they are supposed to work. They seem to dry out very fast, so be sure to store the bottles on their sides.

I would think the 375's take a #8 cork and a normal bottle (750) takes
a #9 larger cork so that is probably not helping, I have never capped
bottles with tasting corks, but just use them after the bottle is open.
PWP Heres a tasting cork.
