Rust

Noticed some rust on the threading on my buon vino filter. Any suggestions? Did not want to use any oil lest it contaminate future filterings.

Probably need to clean off the rust and apply a food grade grease or petroleum jelly.

The first choice should be a vegetable oil/ lard. , , For specific properties there are food grade greases/ mineral oil which the plant uses on the stainless steel equipment as stickman suggests. Steel wool is never used on stainless equipment since workers sometimes damaged the cleanability of the surface.
Any way a thin film is best since oil will trap dirt.
