Just curious, don't you already use plastic fermenters, I think everyone else does. But to almost answer your question there is an HDPE number that is supposed to represent food grade. Just can't remember what that number is.

Yes I have used plastic demijohns but these are heavy duty plastic kegs. But I’ll tjeck the plastic symbol.

If it is food grade, it should not impart plastic flavors. Depending on the plastic, there could be concern about long term aging in plastic and becoming oxidized.
