Oak Staves

This is probably a dumb question, but I was just wondering if you guys sanitize the oak staves prior to dropping them into the carboy.

A quick rinse with kmeta solution, then in they go....

I agree that they could go straight in.

I rinse more for simply removing any saw dust that might be on them. If I rinse, my thinking is that I might as well rinse in k-meta solution.

I should have clarified that rinsing really had little to do with potential bacteria issues.

I was told that the reason for soaking oak cubes was to draw off the harsher tannins and it had nothing to do with sanitation
