Grapefruit taste?

How would one best impart a slight grapefruit taste in a wine? Zest? Juice? Added during fermentation or after?
 
Just the outside peel (no pith) works very well. I don't zest the grapefruit. I use a potato peeler and take of the outside peel in broad strips. Then flip over the strips and make sure there is no white pith. Then just drop them in the carboy. The big wide strips are a lot easier to get out/rack off of than zest.

Keep an eye on it. I've had to remove the peels after as little as a week.
