I just recently opened up a container of fermax and noticed that it looked wet, almost to a paste, like play-dough consistency. It was stored tight in its container and in a plastic bag, so I don't think it absorbed moisture from anywhere. It always smelled kind of ammonia-like, so I don't think it really smells different. Should I use it, dry it out and store it? Anyone have this experience before? My regularDAP and energizer look fine.

I'm trying to dry some out to see how that goes. I'm thinking this stuff must be hygroscopic, though I can't see where it could have absorbed water from. I had it packed with DAP, energizer, and some various finings. I've had good luck with the stuff in the past so I don't want to throw it out, but will if there's a chance I'll contaminate a wine before it even gets started. I've shot the manufacturer an email to see if they know about the issue.
