Hi ya'll
We go over to the coast a few times a year and in Jan the elephant seals come to Ragged Point to have their babies - and what a sight it is so wanted to share.
Enjoy
wish you could read the timeline
as far as the eye can see - but just in this cove
coming in from the sea - these are young cows 400-600#'s
more cows just kickin' it in the sun
and a bull - they go over 2000#'s
fight is brewing
and they are at it - but it only lasts 30-45 seconds
think i will nap again after that!!
they only can come in 10-20 feet at a time since they are
so heavy. They also can move faster than you think but again
only for a short distance.
These creatures are amazing and beautiful. Only Jan and Feb they
come in and the viewing crowds are plentiful. The state put in a boardwalk
along the cove to enjoy them. Before that they were all over the roads
and people would walk down to them. Lots of folks were bitten or
injured for messing with them - so the fence and boardwalk.
Hope you enjoyed - always a treat to go over and see them. Do a google search on elephant seals if interested.
