Cork type and bottle position, you will be surprised

I always store mine upright but I use nomacorcs. Real cork does need to stay moist.
 
Did you also read that the bottles should be stored at 70% humidity? Probably to keep the corks moist.

So laying down accomplishes the same thing, l think.
