How many hydrometers should one own? Well I have a pile of them but only one each of the close reading Brix hydrometers. No, I did not drop it. I had it in the hydrometer jar under the faucet rinsing it off when the hydrometer popped up into the faucet spout and I pulled it away not knowing it went into it. SNAP! Dang it!!!

I use four different ones during fermentation and at $15 each I don't double up. Always have the SG hydrometer for a back up though.

I can't count how many I have broken over the years. If do figure that I bust 3 or 4 per year. I hear that they had one made out of metal (copper). I have searched for one, but was unable to find it.
