rjb222's post in the current Apple Cider thread reminded me of this oldie...

It was spring, and Farmer Bill was having trouble with his horses. It sees that the birds were building nests in their manes. He tried all sorts of things to keep them away from the manes, but nothing worked.

Finally, he asked the local veterinarian, Doc Campbell, what he should do. The doc said, "Go down to the general store and buy a 2 lb bag of baking yeast. Sprinkle it liberally into the horses's mane every couple of days until nesting season is over. That'll keep them birds away.

Puzzled, but willing to try anything, Farmer Bill did as the Doc recommended, and to his surprise, the remedy worked.

The next time he saw the Doc, he related his amazing experience, but allowed that he didn't know WHY it worked.

The doc replied, " I don't know either, but you know what they say..."

(wait for it)

"Yeast is yeast and nest is nest, and never the mane shall tweet..."
