After all fermentaion has been completed on my rose wine and waited and racked it after a couple weeks i added about 25-30ppm per gallon of wine to protect the wine, the instant i aded the k-meta to the wine it released gas and seemed to change to a more brown color. I think i made a serious mistake and i dont know what to do know. any help or advice about what to do.
thanks

This happens quite often with some types of wine and sometimes the color will change back, sometimes not. Strawberry is notorious for this. It canbe so bad some people will resort to food coloring to bring back the nice colors.

I was wondering why my muscadine turned bronze color. Now I know. Not an appealing color at all given they were red (purple muscadines)

I don't think red food coloring will work, not sure though. Any suggestions are welcome.

This is interesting and something I have not ran into. I wonder if you had added that kmeta to a liter of the wine first and then added it back into the gallon if this would have helped prevent it.

I would think adding anything red would make it even darker but what about blending in some white. Maybe just some time or filtering will do it. I am just thinking out loud and throwing these ideas out there.

SO2 can have a bleaching effect on some anthocyanins, however the reaction is reversible and the colour should return as the free SO2 decreases.

Good info Manimal and good to see you back on here or at least I haveny seen you on in awhile.

Definitely sounds like a sulfur bleaching problem. With grape-based wines, the color is usually regained as S2 leaves solution as gas.

Had a strawberry once that was a nice pink. Racked and it stayed nice and pink til I got just a little of the lees while racking. When the lees hit it it turned a straw color. Never did go back to pink. When bottled it was pretty much clear with no color. Drank it and never looked back. Arne.
