Alot of discussions on Watermelon wine. Please post your recipe for Watermelon and Orange wine. (Wade?)

I would like to know how you can keep the "flavor" in the watermelon wine. Seems to me it could be lost during the process.

Has anyone made any good Orange Wine?

I used this one that I found in Winemaker Mag.

<![endif]-->Orange Wine

Makes 1 gallon (3.8 L) of wine

Ingredients</span>

1 pint (~0.5 L) of freshly squeezed

Satsuma or Tangerine orange juice

2 1/2 lbs. (1.1 kg) cane sugar

6 1/2 pints (3.1 L) water

1/2 tsp. pectic enzyme

1 tsp. yeast nutrient

1 Campden Tablet

(crushed and dissolved)

Chablis wine yeast

fining agent </span>

The orange juice taste was very light but I'll need to sweeten this since it went dry. Just stabilized it this week end so its still a work in progress.

Guess you will have it at our next meeting RIGHT?

Watermelon wine:

Take 1 - 30-40 lb field temperature melon and cut out a 4" cap from one end. Drill hole in cap to fit an airlock. Using a large spoon, whatever, stir the crap out of the meat inside the melon, juicing it up good. Add 2 cans thawed Welches grape concentrate,1 tsp acid blend, 1 tsp yeast nutrient and 1 crushed and dissolved campden tablet. Finish filling watermelon with water, stir well, adjust sg to 1.080 then pitch a yeast starter made from Montrachet yeast. Put cap with airlock back on melon, seal good with duct tape and set it in the corner somewhere until fermentation ends.

Will this really work ? I dont know...never tried it but it sure sounds good

I have not made any as of yet but have read many a post on Watermelon as it intrigues me and I have heard of Waldos method and have heard posts where people did it and it didnt make it nut posts were vague on it as to why.

I sure thought that I was going to find a good watermelon recipe when I opened this thread. Duct tape. I'll tell how new I am, I thought he was serious. I will plant yellow and orange watermelons in March here in Houston. They have a higher sugar content than the red meated watermelons. I will probably ruin some watermelons but I am going to get it down. I've had watermelon wine but I was not interested in making wine at the time so I didnt inquire about it.

I will be watching this post to see yalls good watermelon wine recipes.

Maybe Waldo is remembering when one plugs a watermelon and adds a bottle of Vodka. Refreshing but stout.
