Is it best to just stick with real sugar?

Bought sugar for my batch of root beer.

One 4lb bag was $3.89 and the one I purchased was $1.99 for 4lbs.

Both bags said the ingredients was sugar. Is there a difference?

Thanks CNM

I am not sure if I understand what you are asking ?
do you have brand names or anything to compare the both ?

White sugar is sugar is sugar, regardless of what plant it comes from (cane, beets, etc). If it says sugar, it's good ole sucrose. Get the least expensive one you can. Unless you have other reasons for choosing one company over another (e.g. politics, environment, etc).

Bakers have a preference for Cane vs. other (beet) sugar. It does make a difference in texture. I can't imagine how that would make any difference in wine.

As long as the only ingredient is "sugar", you should be ok. don't even think about using powdered sugar if you are a cup or two short. Powdered Sugar has cornstarch to keep it from lumping.

I guess I should have been more clear. I meant artificial sweeteners.

Artificial sweeteners will give you of tastes. This includes the stuff sold in winemaking stores.

As Dan said, the artificial sweeteners chang e the taste , IMO. I used them for a few years in my kits for hubby. I switched to just using simple syrup and he noticed the taste was better with the sugar.

Diet?

If I use artificial sweeteners to make pop with, will it be like a diet or low cal pop?
