I am wanting to buy a Refractometer....[a toy I think would be fun]

Been checking them out and see there is an old model with a screw driver and a new model with a thumb screw..anyone know which would be better???....Or anything else a person should know before ordering one?????

Do I really need one???

We use them at work a lot, the thumb screw makes it easier to calibrate, also easier to bump out of calibration. If the brix (sugar level) is something you want to monitor, they are very handy. Growing a lot of your own fruit, it would be more exact to know when they are at there peak by using one.

I want to monitor the sugar level of fruit....

Guess you use it on the fruit....and then use it again and know the fruit is getting riper....but you must still guess when it is time to harvest.

Think it would be a fun toy....

Can you also test your wine must with it????Edited by: Northern Winos

All it takes is one drop, close the door and look through it. It tells you what % sugar it is. They can be calibrated with distilled water as needed.
