I am being told by a friend that this kit is good. So I bought it. Alot of people are tell me to add more alcohol to it (I have heard of Everclear). And said do not make it really sweet. This is my first port kit..

Does anyone have any knowledge on this for a novice??

I am not a novice winemaker but i too am getting ready to make my first Port's. It has me a bit apprehensive as there are variations on how you can make it. There are a couple threads going discussing Port. You might look them up and get info. Thats what I am going to do, as well as ask a lot of questions myself.

George and Joseph just made a batch which they broke into seven different batches.

I have made several batches of the WineExpert Port and I added 750 ml + of the E&J VSOP Brandy and it did well. I added it in at the stage right before bottling. One of them, I also added 1.5 oz of chocolate extract and it came out exceptionaly well.

A few months ago, on another board I beleive it was, they were talking about an Orange Chocolate Port that sounded really good.

Anybody ever hear of these, can one still get one?

But for $79 I would have tried it.....

I wonder how hard it would be to duplicate....... the Home Made way!

Would you use like Hersheys cocoa, melted chocolate??????

A few orange peels.................

I may have to try a gallon of that just for fun.

What would be the best chocolate?

Have you ever seen the recipe for chocolate covered cherry wine? It
literally involves buying boxes of chocolate covered cherries for it!

I made this port. It is outstanding! I'm not sure I'd call it a port though. More like a desert wine. Very full bodied like a port, but the orange and chocolate hints really don't belong in port. It smells like a Terry's chocolate orange!

They sold out so fast that RJS had to do a second run and have now run out of materials. However, rumour has it that it might make the regular lineup if they can source the raw materials.

I'm confused on the port Kits. Do the two George carries make 30 bottles each or is that a typo? The kit at the local was $89 and only made 15. Plus I was not ready to get all the smaller gear as we just started our first kit.

It is a typo on the Winexpert page, both the Winexpert Selection Special Port and Mosti Mondiale - La Bodega make 15 bottles/3 gals.

Thanks Masta!

Island mist Blackberry Merlot is number two then. (with sugar)

Did it say 30 375 ml bottles? I beleive I read that on the flyer.
