I bought a Vinters Reserve Pinot Blanc from Winexpert. I followed all instructions exactly and all my readings were on the mark. However, in the primary fermenter it began to turn color. Now that its in the carboy, almost ready to rack, it has turned a brownish red.

Does anybody know why it turned color? Should I go ahead and bottle it or is it somehow ruined?

My wife thinks I really screwed something up. Maybe I did. Can aanybody clue me in?

Sounds like it got oxidized! Did you ferment in primary with an airlock or at what point did you put the airlock on it?

Yes, I put the airlock on the primary immediately. I read somewhere that the pinot blanc grape contains a lot of tanin and that the wine sometimes "browns" but I don't know what that means.

I'd give the Winexpert 1-800 # a call to see if they've had any color stabilization issues with that batch.
