Since many do the battonage method with their chardonnays, is it OK to
leave the chardonnay on the lees within the secondary for a month or
longer without doing the battonage?

In other words, I am feeling lazy and might not stabilize/degass the
wine for another week or two and want to make sure i am not doing any
damage by leaving it on the gross lees for an extended time period.

My guess is that it is perfectly fine, but what do you all think?

I have left wine in the secondary after the initial transfer from the primary on the lees for up to 2 months more than oncewithout a problem.

Leaving a wine on the sediment makes it develop a nutty flavor and a creamy flavor and this is called Sur Lees, not quite as much as the Battonage method where it is actually stirred in as this will multiply those flavors.
