Ok, just curious as to why this is:

I always read the directions on any chemical I use. In the past year I have bought potassium metabisupfite from two different companies. There is a huge different on what each one says.

LD Carlson says 1/4 tsp per 6 gallon of must. for sanitize use 2oz to 1 gallon of water.

Crosby & Baker says 1/8 tsp per gallon but it does say this will produce approx. 1pp ppm of free SO2. for sanitze use 3 tablespoon per gallon

The sanitizing dosage is the same as 2 ounces is 3 tbs or very very close. 1/8 tsp per gallon must put S02 levels very high.

Julie,

Curious, what is the ppm on the LD Carlson for 1/4 tsp?

Im pretty sure that puts it at about 45 ppm for 1/4 tsp per 6 gallons.
