I Think The World Is Coming To An End!

I woke up this morning ant the temperature outside was 22F!

I think Hell has indeed froze over and it is starting to make surface here in South Louisiana. It is usually MUCH warmer here this time of year. We are fast approaching Mardi Gras season and we can't have it too cold for that!

Crawfish are coming in season as well and we need some warmer weather for that as well.

I have had them the past couple weekends but they were very small. It has been a miserable winter here. It has only been in the 70's once since before Thanksgiving!


I just am ready for the cold weather to be gone. The Wife teases me all the time and says she can't believe me cause I am from the Midwest. I keep telling here there is a reason I moved south but she just don't get it. I do not like cold weather unless the wind is perfectly still, there is no humidity, and there is a good snow cover on the ground, and it is sunny. If all of those requirements aren't met, I want it 75 degrees and sunny outside.

Smurfe, I will trade places with you for a while if you want. We haven't seen a high of 22 deg in a couple weeks now. Lows are about zero or lower and you don't even ask about the wind chill! Overall though it has been a very mild winter. We will look for spring in about 3-4 months.


I want 75 degrees and sunny outside too, but it ain't gonna happin.

Here on the west coast, we have had one of the coldest winters that I can remember here. I moved here from the prairies to get away from snow and cold. The Pacific ocean is supposed to regulate our temps here and keep us in the 50s during winter, and 70s and 80s during summer.

nope...not this year. 30s all the way through with brief temps in the 40s. I can't wait until we all measure temps in Centigrade! All this conversion stuff gives me a headache.

I don't like the cold either! The wind blows all the time here in Nebraska, and I swear it is because all of the farmers have taken out the trees so they can grow more crops. Leaving the Oklahoma wind to blow through out state. Don't ask me where Kansas went? Guess it blew away!

Nope, we are on metric Centigrade. I was old enough during school that I was part of the transition to metric, so I know both and can do the conversions in my head. I'm the last generation to really know both. All the newer folk don't know how far a mile is, have no clue what an inch is, but they do have some idea of pounds and ounces. About the only place that I know of that people understand is cooking temperatures. Most of canada still uses the Farenheit system for cooking!

I have heard that the US Gov't is going to attempt to change things over again, starting in 2010, by going from gallons to litres at the gas pumps. That's what made all of Canada start to embrace it.

The metric system is the best and the easiest by far. Im trying to use it for everything in my wine making hobby.

Well, it is a nice wet 42 degrees this morning. Still miserable. My wife just laughs at me. People from here just don't understand the difference. People from the north don't understand the difference. I feel colder here at 40 degrees than I did at zero degrees up north. The dampness goes right to the bone.


My first winter here was the coldest I have ever been in my life and it only got down to 35 once. I remember some -20 days in Illinois. It commonly hit 0 where I grew up and lived most my life. I guess it is all related to I am getting old and can't tolerate the temps like I used to.

Finally getting below freezing here at night. Of course last night some Yahoo had to hit a pole and knock out the power and phone lines for half the night.

Sure glad the wood stove was already fired up and pumping real good. Finally came back on this a.m. but managed to keep the house a comfortable 64 F.


As for snow! What's that? We saw about 2" a week ago and might get a little more on Thur.Sure has been a strange winter here in the "Freestate."
