Here is a pic of the swelling at the base of the vine. This is black Spanish and was planted 03/12. Should I be concerned?

That is probably crown gall and yes you should worry about it. Notice the gall formation that looks similar to a brain outside on the trunk. It is an infection that generally gets in the vine through an injury such as a weed whacker, etc. The trunk will eventually die. You can try and see if a shoot will grow below it, in which case you cut off the infected area. Being only a year or so old, you could also rip it out and replant.
