Does anyone use the fan training system?

Came across this video from Michigan state's viticulture program. I have all cold hardy grapes and have no need for this system. I'm curious though about trying to grow some vinifera with it. Hardier varieties like cab franc and riesling

I moved my Chardonel vines from VSP to a fan system about 5 years ago. It worked well for three years but the last two have been just too cold and the vines froze almost to the ground. In spite of that some of them still put out grapes.
