I just ordered a wine kit that will make 3 gallons of wine. I only have a 6 gallon carboy. Can I make the 6 gallon work?

No. Once it has fermented out and degassed, it will oxidize because of too much headspace.

You need 3 (1) G jugs or a 3G carboy. This is how it starts is right!

I thought that I had read a post that said to use decorative rocks to make up the space. I'm new to this and was sceptical but thought I would ask. You're right and so it begins!!

Soe people use sanitized marbles (for small amounts) but you would be cheaper buying a smaller carboy or 3 (1) G jugs than trying to displace 3G of wine with marbles!

Mike's right, as usual. I use marbles for up to 1 liter, but 3 gallons is about 12 liters!!

Man would that be 1 heavy carboy if you did displace that much. If you tried to pick it up the bottom would most likely fall out!

I agree with the others, buy your first 3 gallon carboy. Eventually you'll be buying more. I love mine!

Buy a 3 gallon, a 1 gallon, and a half gallon. Might as well it is going to happen!
