Is this the right or good one.
80 proof, 40% ABV, different brands available. I plan on using maybe 500ml ?
The bottle is 750ml for $13

I used E&J XO 1500ml in my RJ Spagnols Toasted Caramel Port Wine Making Kit. ::

I used 2 bottles on my Choc. Rasp Port. Its 2 years old now and keeps getting better. Bakervinyard

So that picture of E&J should be a good brandy.
I don't know about brandys at all......:p

The picture you show is the "VS". What people are recommending is VSOP.

What's the difference?

VS is aged about 2-6 years
VSOP is aged 6-10 years
XO is aged 6-10 years in small casks

VS is considered "cooking brandy"
XO is considered "drinking brandy"
VSOP is drinking brandy for the guy that can't afford XO.

For the extra dollar over VS, you are getting a smoother and better tasting brandy. XO is almost double the cost of VS.

Thanks guys...stopping by store later to do the mixing.
It looks the smallest bottle is 750ml, if so I think I'll be adding half or a bit more and see how it tastes.

My rule of thumb is a 750 per 3 gallons, keeps the planning easy. My port is yummy good, very smooth.

E&J XO is about $25 for 1.75L

Ended up adding a tiny bit more than 375ml of E&J VSOP.
1 375ml extra bottle that went under cork.
