2013 Blackberries

I just finished weeding my grapes and blackberries and low and behold I have new blackberry canes that have busted up through the soil.

That's an early start, hopefully they don't get damaged from the crazy weather we have nowadays.

Might be some frost damage on those, depending on variety, in the coming months although if you keep an eye on them, they should give you a clear picture on how cold hardy those berries are in your area

I am ony 60 miles from the Gulf so I think I will just put some hay or more shredded news paper on top of them. It is 77 degrees here today.

It's 74 here today but will go down to the 20's tomorrow night.
