I would like to start making some larger batches. Is it possible to start a 5 gallon batch (primary) and then separate the batch into 5 carboys (secondary)? Just curious if this would cause any problems. I have limited storage space and carboys work better......

Sure you can split them up if you like. You mite get slightly different flavors in one or all of them. Just due to the must having settled in slightly different layers. Let everyone know how it comes out. And welcome to the forum. Arne.

Perfect opportunity to experiment ,,,,, In order to be on an even keel, be sure to stir original 5 gallons well just prior to dividing. Try various (but compatible) yeasts, additives and/or treatments. Keep accurate notations as you surely will have a couple that agree with your taste buds! G'luck and keep thinking ahead :db
