This may be a stupid question, but I've search the web and can't find anything about this. I am making a kit wine (Merlot). I have moved onto the clearing stage and the lees almost immediately settled to the bottom of the carboy after addiong the clarifier. My concern is that there is a ring of sediment in the wine at the top of the liquid that doesn't seem to be sinking. It's only been three days since the clarifier was added (the kit says to clear for 14 days), so I'm not overly concerned. I just want to know if this is a normal condition.

My s.g. was .992 when I added the K-sorbate and clarifier.

Will the sediment settle to the bottom as time goes on?

Thanks,
Eric

should be no issue..but if really concerned...put a clean rag around your finger and just wipe it clean...or use some other method that works for you....there will always be something hanging around...you could just swirl the wine and see if it drops
