Hi everyone,

I am experimenting with a Mosti VN Bourg Royal White. I plan on using the battonage method for a month or so and also add 1- 2 oz. of French oak cubes during this time.

Will one month be enough time for the oak and what do you think of the amount of oak? Also, is it ok to have oak in the carboy when doing battonage? This is my first oaking "experiment" with a kit so I am looking for a little guidance.

I think that will be fine. Just always keep checking on the oak as thats a very preferential component in your wine. You may want way more or way less then I would like. Test it after about 2 weeks.

You can always add more..... But you cant take out.

START SMALL. let a small amount take some time to get it where you want it.

Thanks Wade and Goodfella for the quick response! I took your advice and started small and only put in 1 oz. I'll taste it in a month and go from there.
