Typically, for a 6 gallon batch, a 7.8gal bucket is used. You have to figure that there can be an inch of foam or more during fermentation. I think you will have problems with a 6.5 gallon bucket. 7.8 gallon bucket also allow room for a bag of fruit or grape skins should your plans include those.
