Usually they do these type of contest at the start of the season before conference games get going and they are working on their offense/defense not at the end of the season when teams are set and playing well or not so well. Just so happens NMSU is playing really well this season! IIRC TX A&M paid UNM like $1,600,000 to play them at the start of the season. TX A&M beat UNM like a step child as the old saying goes 52-10.
Guess it didn't help their coach down the road! LOL

The way scheduling works, I'm sure this was set up quite a while back. But there is still too much stupid money in football overall, and especially in college ball, where the "amateur" players don't even get paid. Gimme more of that as an employer! Your workforce does not get a cent! Ca-CHING! Then the coaches' salaries. Really? Alabama's Nick Saban makes $11.4 million this year, in a state where the per capita income is $50,916 (nationally, it's $70.480). That's just obscene. Oh, and YOU'RE FIRED! Fine, then. Jimbo Fisher gets $76 million to sit on his butt at home. All so groups of rabid fans leaving the stadium can say, "We won!" No, YOU paid to watch. THEY won.

Jimbo Fisher, the fired TX A&M coach will make $26,300 per DAY not to coach! The local news here in San Antonio is reporting that the A&M Alumni have already banded together and donated enough $$$$$ to pay him out all together and find another coach. Rinse.
