I followed the inst. and it reads to add 5 pints of water and add ingredients except yeast but with the juice and water I still dont have 1 gallon of liquid if my mathamagician skills are correct i"m 1.5 quarts short correct
 
If you could post the recipe we would be better able to guide you. Keep in mind however that a lot of the recipes are really just a guide. Fruits in particular can yield different amounts of liquid from year to year or area to area.

Way to vauge. need much more info. Start from what you are making and what the recipe states
