This is totally Off Topic, but know there are some builders and designers on this Forum...so here goes....
Been OnLine looking for FREE plans to build a Cupola for on top of a proposed garage....has anyone ever seen any OnLine????
I see where you can buy lots of plans and completed Cupolas, and saw a Site that had shots of one being made [HGTV...that was helpful] but actual FREE plans with dimensions would be most helpful.
Thanks!!!!

Thanks Appleman...figured you'd be the one. being as you are a designer.
We just want a plain one out of dimension lumber, that you put premade louvers in...about 30"X30" [figure that will balance a 32'X36' garage]. One with a straight roof, [not sway back], a roof that can be shingled to match the garage roof.
My husband makes steel weather vanes, so he will put one on the top.

We both like one like this,

It came from this Site... no plans there, but they showed how to assemble it, very helpful.
Maybe if I Emailed HGTV they would have plans....

We want to clad it in steel siding so it will be maintenance free, also use premade steel louvers for the vent part like they did on this Site....looks like it would be fun to build....

This is another, build all out of lumber, but using a different roof idea....but don't care for the wooden louvers...

Will eventually find some plans, just have to keep surfing the Net......guess I could break down and buy some plans, there seems to be many available....

You're right, there are so many types available. The styles are almost limitless. Norm Abrams of New Yankee workshop has plans with or without a video available for a fairly simple one he built. I think they used it in one of the This Old House series. Here's a link.

You can probably look at a bunch of sites and get partial ideas and incorporate them into a one-of-kind cupola. Good luck.

Norm Abrams the man. If I had all the jigs and tools he had, I would sell them all and retire.

Thanks for the info.....going to keep looking and searching for plans, maybe even go OnLine to our local Library and order some books...
No big rush, we are just breaking ground now, so plenty of time...
