When I moved into my new house, I took over one of the bedrooms for winemaking and needless to say the wife wasn't happy. After a couple of months I decided to capture some unused space under the stairs. It is small, but it seems like it is going to do the trick, and you get to it from the bathroom so I have running water only a couple of feet away.

It isn't quite done yet, but getting close.

Congratulations! Very nice job! And there's no excuse for anyone to mess with your stuff when it's under the stairs!

Tell your wife she now owes you the best kit money can buy!

If you can fit all that into that small space imagine how much you could fit in that spare bedroom!

It does look great though in your little room under the stairs.

yes indeed, very nice work Steve. it really helps to see pics and see how different people do the same things. thanks again

Thanks everyone, I have a little bit of finishing work to do, but it is functional right now...

Steve, it looks fantastic. I have been struggling to figure out where to store all my wine. I make it in the kitchen but once it is in the bottle I need a place to store all my bottles. My husband suggested under the basement stairs and I discarded that idea because of all the vibration of people going up and down the staris. I am curious if anyone feels this is a valid concern. If I should not worry about vibration then I am going to look closer at what you have done and "borrow" some ideas.

Great job

Steve,

Nice work!

But it looks like some of those carboys are empty......por que?

Cindyjo,
Winemaking is usually a compromise all the time. If that is the only spot available, it would be better than no space at all. I wouldn't worry too much about vibration from the stairs, especially if you don't fasten the rack to the stair stringers.

Cindyjo. like appleman said, try not to attach anything to the actual
stairs. And if you must, maybe put a pc of rubber between what you are
fastening to absorb some vibration.
