Visiting my wifes brother and family at Harrodsburg KY over Memorial Day week , Is there anyone from that area that can tell me which wineries and distilleries you would recommend checking out?

So you can get a visual, map of Harrodsburg/surrounding area:

If you follow Hwy 127 from Harrodsburg toward Lawrenceburg and Frankfort you will stumble across a handful of distilleries: Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey, Four Roses, Buffalo Trace. http://kybourbontrail.com/index.php/guide/

Lover's Leap Winery is just off 127 in Lawrenceburg and Prodigy in Frankfort pours a killer glass of Diamond (sweet white). First Vineyard, in Nicholasville, Ky---close to Harrodsburg has a HUGE history for the United States in terms of vineyards. You should try to get there.

If you want to venture toward Louisville, there is a favorite winery of mine, Wight-Meyer Vineyard and Winery, in Shepherdsville, KY. They are in Bullitt Co & there are four wineries in that county, all within several miles of each other. It just happens that Wight-Meyer is THE winery in the state to go to, open 7 days a week.

Regardless, KY has great wineries and the state is increasing its winery numbers each year; not to mention grape production. Enjoy your trip.

I'd recommend the following:

Equus Run Vineyards in Midway, KY.
Prodigy Vineyards in Versailles, KY - Their tasting room is not at the vineyards, but is in a small shopping center next to an art gallery.
Wildside Winery in Versailles, KY - great fruit wines, and they have a BBR, which stands for Bourbon Barrel Red, which is very unique and quite good.

Find them on the kentuckywine links from the previous post.

Lover's Leap is also good, but they recently came under new ownership and last time I checked they weren't reopened yet. They may be now, but before you head out there call first.

Distilleries - the usual candidates that have been mentioned, and I'd recommend Labrot & Graham, which makes Woodford Reserve. This one is a beautiful old distillery that has a free tour. It's pretty near Prodigy Vineyards as well.

Lover's Leap is open. They have a new vintner.
