Fermintation bucket without gasket

Will an airlock on a fermintation bucket that has a lid without a gasket still work ?

A towel over the top instead of a lid also works during primary fermentation.

But, if you mean after a day 5 or so: No. The airlock will keep air from getting in through the airlock hole in your lid. It will not keep air from getting in from the sides. That is what the gasket is for. Better to rack to a carboy.
