I feel like I'm ready to try my hand at a higher-end kit, and I see George has the MM Alljuice Sangiovese on special this month. Has anyone made this kit? Sangiovese isn't one of my "usual" varietals but I had one recently that was just incredible. Thought this might be worth a shot.

Thoughts?

It's pretty good. I made it last May, and still have about half the batch left. It regularly beats out the Vinifera Noble Sangiovese, but not by much. It's a little richer, a little fuller, better mouthfeel. I would definitely recommend it. I would also let it get at least a year old before really digging into your "liquid gold". So, for next Thanksgiving (2011), you should have something to truly look forward to.

Funny you should mention that one.

I just popped the cork on my first one Friday on my MM AJ Sangiovese. Its about 12.5 months old now. When first opened it seemed to be a little behind all my other 12 month old wines. Even my MM AJ Amarone seemed further along at 12 months than this kit. It took about 2 hours to open and then it was excellent. I think the AJ kits need more like 14-18 months to get really good but as long as you give them time to air out before drinking you can ease into them from 12 months onward.

I give this kit 2
