What are your opinions on purchasing an antique oak barrel off craigslist? Are they still good for wine making? Or should I just buy a new Vadai?

Don't waste your money on those antiques unless you plan on making a planter, purchase a new one from Vadai.
 
Thanks Tom, Thats what I figured. Where is the best place to buy Vadai? MoreWine?
 
I haven't bought one in a little over a year. Last time I did More came out cheaper out the door with TTL as they say.
 
Forza, I agree with the above and I would avoid trying to reclaim barrels. No telling what is growing inside them. I would, however, see if he is willing to part with the little tool resting on top of the smallest barrel. It is a hoop tool and used for tightening the hoops when barrels dry out.
