I want to do some ageing before botteling and I am intersted in buying a new barrell. Should I first age in the barrell for a short time (since it will be new) and then carboy or does it really matter which goes first?

I dont think it matters but make sure you have several batches lined up for the barrel assuming its a small barrel.

Thanks Tony. Due to size and weigh I'll be using a 20 or 23LT.
I know you should keep it full of wine if at all possible. And with each successive batch it needs to stay longer so I can see a rotation going on until I get out of sync or the barrell is neutral.
