How much money is your wine worth?

It is called Mega Purple, used on a lot of <$20.00 bottles. Many of the respectable winemakers refuse to use it. Here is a good article on Mega Purple, you can also google to get more info. ts

Just a question in general about wine kits?

It is because of the clearing agents that they use. ts edit: maybe should read agent(?)

    Are the shrink capsules important

Some of the nicest commercial bottles in my cellar came without foil (i.e. Elevage, Cathy Corison). I tend to foil only the bottles that are to be gifts or brought to parties/get togethers. I see them as aesthetics only- ymmv Mike

To sanitize or not, is there a compromise?

Hi Malvina, Do you know what dilution ratio they are using to make a Citric Acid sanitizing solution? Thanks in advance! ts

Cellar Craft 12L kits worth the premium?

Just an FYI, the sterling kits are only 10.5L (the other 1.5L is the included grape pack), as opposed to the showcase which is 16L with a 2L grape pack. ts

Mosti Mondiale Any MM dealers in Minneapolis metro area?

I think you need to head North to Cloquet for the nearest MM dealer! I believe that it is Hidden View Winery?? ts

Other Which vendor do you recommend

I use George at FVW all the time. I am about 30 minutes from Midwest and Northern Brewer, but find I have a lot more choices and it's cheaper with George (even with shipping). I don't go to Midwest anymore after pre ordering some Limited Kits from them and it turned out to be a huge cluster (but...

    Other Big Chard Suggestions

Hey thanks for the replies. When I began thinking of a big bold chardonnay kit, I immediately thought of the Australian kits. That being said, I have tried a lot of Australian Chardonnays, and haven't found one I like. I noticed that the only kit chardonnay that said it had a body rating of 5...

    Other Big Chard Suggestions

My wife and I are strictly red wine drinkers. We have tried on countless occasions to learn to like white wines, but just can't do it. A lot of our friends/family are white drinkers, so it would be nice to enjoy a glass/bottle with them. Well, we went to a wine tasting (we always try several...

Cellar Craft Cellar Craft Showcase LR Carmenere-Cabernet

Beautifully done Mike! I tried my first split of this last weekend. Mine was started May 8 2011, and it spent 13 weeks in a barrel. My wife and I both loved it! I really don't want to open any more until the 18-24 month mark, but that may be difficult (I still have 3 splits to go!). Have a great...

    Other Kits, Barrels, and Kmeta

Thanks Mike! I was hoping that you would chime in. That is just what I thought, I better not bottle anything until I get my sulfite testing in check. I wonder, once I get a Vinmetrica, and test some of my bottled kits that were completed in the last year. How feasible would it be to uncork 30...

    Other Kits, Barrels, and Kmeta

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice on sulphites, 23L barrel aging, and red kit wines. Right now I do not test for sulphites, I know I should (I am saving for a Vinmetrica). Those who test sulphites and use a 3 month barrel ageing, what average amount of Kmeta should I be using for this...

Cellar Craft Cellar Craft Limited Release kits for 2012

yeah, I was bummed out that the Nebbiolo only came with a 2L grape pack, I was expecting 2.6L like years past. Oh well, I too have a couple of the RMT that should be here on Friday, 2L grape packs and all!

    Quick drinker?

Thanks rjb, I did a quick google search and noted several sites selling the Cellar Classic Bergamais. I had no idea there was a higher end (15L) Bergamais kit! I would love to find a complete list of RJS kits, obviously the website isn't it! (I am wondering if they are still making the...

    Quick drinker?

Are you referring to the Grand Cru Bergamais? I don't see any Cellar Classic listed by RJ Spagnols. I have a friend that made one of these (Grand Cru) for an immediate drinker, and was very fond of it. TS

    Heat shrink capsules

Yeah another for boiling water. I use a pot intended for cooking asparagus, it is tall and slender. I fill it to the top and hold onto the bottom of the foil with my finger and dip the top. Then, you can let go of the foil, and give it a quick dip. oops...forgot to add I have never had a...

    Vinmetrica and Tannins

I am looking for a SO2 tester, and the Vinmetrica in particular. I make only dry kit reds, and have found that I use Tan Cor Grand Cru more than not. I am wondering if the tannin addition will give the Vinmetrica false readings? Does anyone have any first hand knowledge? Thanks in advance. TS

    Cellar Craft Nebbiolo

I just stabilzed and cleared this kit yesterday. A little disappointed in the SG, supposed to be high alcohol, and my starting sg was 1.072- this was before the grape pack had a chance to sit too long. That was filled 23L, not to the 23L Italian carboy mark. I think that is the lowest of any...

WineXpert Adding Zante Currants to WE Kit for extra Body

Hi Bacci, Sorry I cannot answer your questions on the zante currents, but can tell you I had the same thoughts last year when I was doing my LE kits. I usually wouldn't do a WineExpert kit because of the lack of skins, but the Primitivo last year was really calling to me. I just about added...
