I've also seen people have success using an embossing gun that can be found at any craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael's. Probably similar results as the heat gun, but a little more compact.
Heat gun works better than boiling water, but I have found that a steamer works best for me. I use a steamer to press my dress clothes, so I already had one on hand.
This is just your gross lees (dead yeast, grape skins, ect.) that is falling to the bottom. It sometimes collects along the sides of the carboy, but will eventually all make its way to the bottom. Sometimes I find it falls faster (off of the sides) if you tap the sides or shake the carboy...
We also enjoyed meeting everyone! You guys laughed at my duct taped brute trash can/lid, but I'd like for you to know that I didn't lose any juice on the way home. Keep me on the list for next year. :b
I really just need to convince my wife that we need more carboys....lol. I really only have enough to do 12 gallons at one time (without having to bottle a couple of kits prematurely). What would be the minimum that i could do without being too inconvenient for everyone else?
I as thinking of getting 20-24 gallons, but don't have the equipment for doing it all at once. Would 5/6 gallon buckets work for picking it up? Could they then be stored in a refrigerator until I am ready for it? Thanks for the help!
I've got a few more questions before I can say yes or no.
How do you pick it up? What type of containers will I need to get in order to safely transport it back home? Can I store it and make smaller batches at a time? If so, what is the best way to store it?
Thanks for the help!
I wish that I could say that I did. The image is being used by several people. I did get permission from the photographer to use it, though :D.
Not sure on which "pair" was being discussed :)
Here are the labels for the two. I wanted them to look like something that you could purchase from a store. I think it adds that little bit of "commercial" look to them and makes them stand out from other homemade wines that most of my family and friends have experienced (you know, the ones...
I finally had some time this weekend and decided to bottle a Moscato Kit and Blackberry that I started from Jam. Both had been bulk aging and could have keep on aging, but I was in need of the carboys (I have two more kits and Skeeter Pee started). I guess the addiction has set in :D...
