So I bought some wax the other day to play around with. Being fairly new to wine making, I have lots of bottled wine now, but all of it less than a year old. Some of my better reds I want to allow to age for a year or so. Some of this wine was bottled using corks which I can't recall which quality of cork I used. But I am pretty sure I just used the cheaper ones, which I understand weren't designed to be used for extended times. So my question is....does a good wax seal on a bottle prevent any oxidation in the bottle regardless of the quality of the cork used?
I really like the look of a wax seal, but if it also ensures no oxygen into the bottle, well then that is. Big bonus to me.
